    Dr Antony Mc Garr

    Dr Antony McGarr

    General Dentist

    BDS (Manc)

    GDC 72127

I studied Dentistry at the University of Manchester, gaining my degree in 1996. Whilst studying in Manchester I became interested in aesthetic dentistry through the teaching of Professor Trevor Burke. This interest developed further after graduating, to become a career-long interest in aesthetic restorative dentistry; helping people to achieve great smiles is an amazing thing to do. I also provide family dental care in my role as a General Dentist.

I held a teaching post at the University Dental Hospital of Manchester for a number of years, teaching Restorative Dentistry and Endodontology at undergraduate and postgraduate level. I made the move into private practice in 2001, working with Boots in their new dental practices. Boots exited from dentistry in 2005 so I moved on to hold various private practice positions in the North West of England, until joining the Dental Academy Team in 2007.

I have studied for further qualifications in restorative and aesthetic dentistry under the guidance of one of today's most influential dentists. This gave me a great opportunity to listen to, talk to and learn from some of the best restorative and aesthetic dentists in dentistry.

The quality of your smile is a mirror of your confidence, so with a combination of tooth whitening, tooth coloured fillings and bonded porcelain restorations, such as crowns, inlays and veneers, we can craft new and confident smiles and really get you smiling again.

    Janet E Dobbs

    Treatment Co-ordinator

    GDC 113811

As Dental Implant Treatment Co-ordinator at the Dental Academy I have continued to develop my role. Along with a team of professionals I work hard to ensure that all patients are cared for and have the personal experience they expect when visiting an established dental implant practice. I spend a large proportion of my time with patients helping them understand their dental options so that they can make informed decisions and then guiding them through their treatment.

I give clinical support to the implant team and to referring dentists who wish to restore the implants we place. I help with training in this field of dentistry to ensure our clinical team is educated to the highest standard giving patients and referring dentists added confidence.
I continue to monitor the large numbers of patients and referring dentists who visit the Dental Academy to ensure that our practice runs smoothly and to the highest standard.

My latest achievement to gain the certificate in Dental Implant Nursing has been extremely rewarding and gives me the formal qualification in the field of dentistry I most enjoy.

Having qualified as a registered dental nurse in 1980 I was keen to develop my career. Following a number of years as a general and senior nurse I secured a position as a Dental Practice Manager in a large practice. I was able to develop the management role and achieve the Diploma in Practice Management in addition to working with a practitioner who wished to develop a dental implant clinic. I trained as a dental implant nurse with an experienced surgeon and his team and attended clinicians courses and study groups to increase my knowledge and allowing me to develop my role as treatment co-ordinator.

My interest in dental implants led me to positions with two leading dental implant companies giving me a wide range of implant product knowledge which proved invaluable in my role as support to the Director of Implantology for the Boots group and through the remainder of my career as Dental Implant Treatment Co-ordinator.

I was involved in the set up and opening of 12 Boots Specialist Centres, working as part of the Boots head office business development and marketing team. My role within the education team for dental clinicians and support staff provided the opportunity to develop my presentation skills giving me the confidence to present to the large groups who attended the dental implant program. Within practice I worked with the clinical teams giving surgical and restorative support and training.
